STORY
Please look up Ngāpuhi or ask your own whānau to get the full, most amazing story. In this design in the centre, Tāniko is Rāhiri and his two sons, Uenuku and Kaharau. It's a bond; even with conflict, they are together intertwined with strong, pure black and white wairua. The rope is bonding them. The kite is in the centre. The flight and landing place of the kite is Tuhoronuku.
One of the designs has the colours on the back showing the east coast is Uenuku, and Kaharau is the west coast. I have put Uenuku and Kaharau on opposite sides.
Because in times of need each coast will help each other, whether it be with resources or goodwill. A proverb from Ngapuhi.
